How to Do The "Big Clean-Up" For Candida & Other Gut Issues
By Deborah Barns (CanXida)
If you’ve been watching our YouTube videos or reading our various guides on the 3-step Diet we recommend for healing Candida Overgrowth, SIBO, IBS & many other gut issues, you've likely seen us mention the 14 Day Big Clean-Up before.
The 14-Day Big Clean-Up is a 2 week cleanse we HIGHLY recommend you complete if this is your first serious attempt at a natural-based treatment for your gut disorder.
If you've made significant dietary changes already (such as cutting out all sugar) & it this isn't your "first rodeo" with Candida, SIBO or IBS diets, you can maybe get away with skipping the Big Clean-Up.
But for everyone else reading this — we STRONGLY encourage you to compete it.
Here's why.
3 Reasons Why to Do a 14-Day Clean Up Before Starting a Candida, SIBO or IBS Diet
- It allows you to slowly ease yourself into the new diet without experiencing withdrawal from things like alcohol, caffeine, take-out foods, candy, ice cream and chocolate.
- It lets you take a break from the diet & lifestyle you had before, which may have contributed to your infection.
- And it reduces your chances of getting die-off symptoms later.
We like to call the Big Clean-up a “warm turkey” approach. Cold turkey taking something away overnight. Warm turkey means you make changes slowly.
In our experience, it’s not a good idea to move a patient with an average or poor diet, into a candida, SIBO or IBS diet overnight.
Let’s just say, for example, you’re not eating the best diet. You’re eating healthy here & there but still eating a lot foods you know you shouldn’t be. Then you quickly change to a healthy diet with lots of salads, lean meats & fresh fruit.
How do you think your body is going to react?
Your gut isn't going to like the sudden diet change one bit!
It’s based its whole digestive system (including the output of enzymes from the stomach & pancreas) around what your current eating habits.
You'd get bloating, gas, fatigue, headaches and more!
Never go from a poor diet to a very healthy diet with lots of supplements overnight. You’re going to feel sick. And then you’re going to say things like "vegetables make me feel terrible."
If you’ve got a chronic gut disorder, have been sick for a long time & have major brain fog, joint pain, fatigue, & lots of gut problems, you need to be careful.
You need to make changes slowly.
Especially if you’re over 40, 50 or 60.
This also applies to supplements. Some patients think if they take huge doses of something, they can hurry up & kill all the yeast or bad bacteria in the gut.
This is the wrong way of thinking. If you want to feel terrible, make lots of changes quickly. Take 10 or 20
supplements a day like some of our former patients did thinking they would get rid of candida, SIBO or IBS in a week.
All you’re going to is make yourself feel sick & get bad aggravations.
You don’t need to feel sick during your treatment. You just need a bit of common sense & the correct protocol. That’s why the clean up is important.
So, this might sound odd but you may need to get rid of a lot of foods in your kitchen during this step.
The more severe your gut disorder is & the worse your symptoms are, the more critical this is.
The best thing to do is grab a bag and fill it with all the foods that have been sitting in jars or bottles in your fridge. If you haven’t used them for a long time, they NEED to go.
Get rid of sauces, syrups, jams, etc.
All these tend to be stored for long periods & develop mold. Even if you can’t visibly see any mold, don’t
take any chances. Throw it away.
Next you want to get rid of anything with added sugar, high fructose corn syrup, & artificial sweeteners because these will completely halt your recovery if you eat them.
You need to give the candy away, the ice cream, the cookies...
All this needs to leave your home. Otherwise you’ll be tempted by it later. Same goes for highly processed foods like potato chips, microwave meals, deli meats, pastries, etc.
Give it away or throw it in the trash.
These are the foods yeast, bad bacteria and parasites thrive on. By removing these foods, you take away the "bad guy's" food source. This leaves them weakened & far easier to get rid of later.
If you don’t want to do this & wish to continue eating these foods (even in small amounts), you may as well stop reading this now. It’s that important.
Do this over a period of a few days if you must, but get it done.
Here’s a short list of foods to get rid of:
- soda drinks
- chocolate & cacao (even unsweetened)
- ice cream
- sweets or candy
- biscuits or cookies
- donuts, muffins or cakes
- pastries
- white breads
- chips
- pizza
- fried chicken & take-out foods
- nutella
- peanut butter
- peanuts & pistachios
- gravies
- processed cereals
- jam or spreads
- fruit juices with added sugar
- energy drinks
- bagels
Cut your caffeine intake down to 1 to 2 cups per day. A cup of coffee or tea in the morning is usually OK as long as you don’t put sugar in it.
The Truth About Die-Off:
If you’ve had candida or a SIBO infection for a while, you’ve probably read that if your symptoms get worse during your treatment, it’s a sign or “die-off” or what we call a Herxheimer reaction.
Maybe you’ve read that as yeast, bad bacteria and parasite cells die, they release toxins that can get into your bloodstream. And that these toxins can cause a variety of symptoms including brain fog, bloating, nausea, skin breakouts, irritability, fatigue, headaches. . .
Or that die-off is a necessary and inevitable part of the recovery process. Or that “you have to tough it out & go through the bad” to get well.
None of this is true.
You don’t need to feel sick while recovering from candida or any chronic gut disorder.
Some folks may get a light cough, skin rash, or headache during the clean up but rest assured this is temporary & should only last a week or two.
True die-off is actually very rare.
It occurs when a large number of yeast or bacteria cells die & the immune system starts attacking them. Many chemicals (at least 79) get released in this process & can create a lot of havoc in the body.
Some get minor reactions that last for days or a week, while others can stay sick for weeks suffering from severe brain fog, pain, vomiting & nausea.
Our team has only seen true die-off probably a dozen times in over 30 years of working with patients.
30 isn’t a lot, & when it did happen it’s been very severe. In most cases the patient was hospitalised because they actually felt like they were about to die.
If your symptoms include chills, fever, lots of sweating, fast heart rate, & terrible skin rashes, it’s likely die-off.
If you don't feel like you're dying, it's not die-off.
Most patients who email us saying they’ve got die-off don’t feel like they’re dying. They just feel bad or sick. This means it’s an aggravation. In the event you do feel really terrible like that, you need to stop taking all supplements and see a doctor. You don't want to sit at home and try to "tough it out."
There are many reasons why you may experience symptoms which you believe are die-off. The #1 reason folks feel ill at the start of treatment is they make too many changes too quickly.
Let’s say you’re drinking 4 cups of coffee a day & all of a sudden you stop. You radically change your diet & cut out all gluten, processed foods & everything else your gut flora is used to.
And at the same time you start taking a supplement like CanXida Remove (RMV) & a probiotic. Then when you feel sick you email us and say, “It’s die-off!”
Hang on. What about the caffeine withdrawal? What about the fact that you stopped eating gluten & doubled your intake of meat or fish?
This can trigger a rapid change in bowel flora & make you feel spaced out, tired or bloated. It can also up-regulate your kidneys and liver.
Because as soon as you start eating more vegetables, drinking more water or taking B vitamins or minerals like magnesium it’s going to activate your body’s natural cleansing responses.
This can make you feel fatigued & cause sore muscles, bowel changes & more. All these things can occur just by taking dietary supplements.
Are you killing yeast or bad bacteria? Are you feeling sick because the yeast or bad bacteria is dying? No. It’s not the candida or the SIBO.
It's your body finally starting to cleanse.
Dietary Supplements to Take During the Big Clean-Up
You probably expect us to promote our CanXida line of dietary supplements now or tell you that CanXida will help prevent reactions or aggravations during this Clean-Up phase.
But actually this is not true. We don't recommend you take CanXida during the Big Clean-Up.
In fact we recommend patients avoid all supplements completely during the Big Clean-Up.
Supplementation should start only 3 to 5 days into the MEVY Diet. This is when you want to start with CanXida Remove (RMV). Start with 1 tablet a day or half a tablet a day if you often react to supplements. Then slowly increase your dosage to 2 tablets a day or more, as outlined in the CanXida User Guide.
You can start taking CanXida Restore (RST) 1 to 3 days after starting Remove.
Click the links below if you want more information about the CanXida line.
- CanXida Remove (RMV): an advanced 12 ingredient antifungal, antibacterial & anti-parasitic formula based on three decades of experience. It’s the only formula that targets the BIG PICTURE of gut disorders & is in our opinion the most premium natural antimicrobial formula on the market.
This is a "heavy duty" formula designed to work even for VERY SEVERE cases where the patient has been sick for YEARS & every supplement & drug they tried in the past either failed them or the gut problem came back.
We've designed it to tackle almost every kind of chronic gut disorder – including IBS.
Don't think this is just a candida product. It's NOT. CanXida is equally suited for candida yeast infections, SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth), Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Inflammatory Bowel Disease, skin issues like eczema, persistent diarrhea or constipation, chronic fatigue, leaky gut, the list goes on and on. . .
CanXida is non-toxic, has no side effects & is safe even for children.
- CanXida Restore (RST): our time-released probiotic + digestive enzyme formula designed to recolonize your gut with the EXACT good bacteria strains shown to most inhibit yeast, bad bacteria, & parasites and restore digestive function. It is designed to TRANSFORM your gut from a place where bad bacteria, yeast & parasites thrive unchallenged – into a place that’s hostile to them & instead encourages friendly bacteria.
Unlike other probiotics, RST uses a time-release capsule by Capsugel™ that only opens up in the small intestine so no good bacteria is lost to stomach acid.
RST uses 7 digestive enzymes. Research in the past 10 years has shown that when you take enzymes & probiotics at the same time, you get an AMPLIFIED EFFECT. Enzymes are especially useful in the first & second month of recovery because they’re going to break down all the starches your new good bacteria are going to feed on.
